Created in the image of God?

Key verse(s)/quote(s):

There is no reason to think that a fish suffers less when dying in a net than a fetus suffers during an abortion.” - Peter Singer, Bio-ethicist & Australian Philosopher

Then God said, Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.’ So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” - Genesis 1:26-27

Key takeaway(s):

  1. The question of our creation in the image of God is a debate about the existence of a Creator (God), the status of human life, our identity, and our value.
  2. A correct understanding of our origins dictates how we live our life, how we value others, and what we focus upon during our time on earth.
  3. This debate cannot be reserved to the hallowed halls of academia or journals being spewed by atheistic scientists presenting theories and philosophies unchallenged.

Overview:

What does it mean to be created in God’s image?
It is important to understand and appreciate the significance and implications of being created in God’s image. It is a question of origins, as stated by John Lennox, a noted debater, Bio-ethicist and Oxford Professor (Mathematics and Philosophy of Science). If we do not correctly understand the debate on this…

Why perpetuate the foolish creation vs. evolution debate?

Question:

Why perpetuate the foolish creation vs. evolution debate? There is no debate. Science has proven Evolution true. Though scientifically inaccurate, the Bible’s truths should not be distorted to try and address science, the Hebrews (and Christians after them, I’m afraid) being rather poor scientists, even by Ancient Greek standards. “Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” Listen to Jesus and pay attention to his life. Jesus is constantly revising the Old Testament, the received text of his day, making adjustments heralding his remarkable Kingdom of Heaven.

The Bible (Old and New Testaments, btw) is composed of paper with words written down by fallible men. God is perfect and NOTHING else is in the universe. God is NOT paper. Jesus already made all this very clear. The Pharisees clung to the old paper. What do you cling to?

Answer:

Hi ,
Thank you for visiting my site and contributing your thoughts. Let me address your viewpoints one by one.

“Why perpetuate the foolish “Creation vs. Evolution debate”? There is no debate. Science has proven Evolution true.”
I would submit that this is not a foolish debate because its implications are real and significant. The linkage between our origins and thus the concepts of a Creator and our identity definitely hinge on this evolutionary debate. Your assertion that there is no debate and that evolutionism has been proven true is also unfounded as creationism and evolutionism are both…

Did apes descend from us?

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for the delay since my last post. I have been quite busy with work, church service and recent happenings in my family life.

I am currently working on a study in response to a question I received with regards to the Creation vs. Evolution debate. Due to the complex nature of this dialogue I am taking my time conducting in-depth research and hope to post on this topic in the coming months. Beyond dealing with an academic debate on a topic such as evolution that seemingly provides a safe haven for atheists I find it interesting that sometimes we, as Christians (including myself), have not taken advantage of the persistent opportunities we have to educate those we know on how creation really took place and thus creating an evangelistic opportunity. If we can establish biblical creationism as a legitimate scientific explanation of the origins of the all that is created in effect we create a logic predicament for atheists - “If earth and man was created… well then who is the Creator?” And wouldn’t we all want to hear that question when we think about and pray for all the people we know who do not trust in one true triune God?

In the meantime I plan to post on a few others topics and also ask for your prayers as I prepare for my second opportunity to preach on a Sunday morning scheduled for October 18 (details on the Events Calendar on the main page of TiS). I also ask for all your prayers for my family…

The Lost Tomb of Jesus - Fact or Fiction?

Post Features:
Presentation Slides

Key verse(s)/quote(s):

…the documentary should not offend devout Christians, since it does not argue that Jesus did not ascend to heaven, at least spiritually, as told in the Bible.”  –  Simcha (Director, The Lost Tomb of Jesus)

Let’s suppose for a moment that we could prove there’s a tomb for Jesus somewhere and bones in an ossuary. For some Christians that would be heresy and blasphemy and wrong, and for others I don’t think it’s going to be a big shock. They have a faith that doesn’t necessarily depend on that.” - James Cameron (Executive Producer, The Lost Tomb of Jesus)

I just think it’s a shame the way this story is being hyped and manipulated. It’s a publicity stunt, and it will make these guys very rich, and it will upset millions of innocent people because they don’t know enough to separate fact from fiction. The fact that it’s been ignored tells you something, It would be amusing if it didn’t mislead so many people.” - William G. Dever, a secular well-credentialed archaeologist who has worked excavating ancient sites in Israel for 50 years and is widely considered the “dean of biblical archaeology among U.S. scholars”

Key takeaway(s):

  1. Names in tombs were very common.
  2. Why is Matthew in the tomb, he isn’t even part of the family?
  3. DNA evidence has been falsely represented and doesn’t show anything but two bodies in the tomb are unrelated in familial way
  4. The statistics presented were misrepresented since even the statistician
