Gospel Message: Anathema Against the Cross

Overview:

A few months ago, I was given the utmost of pleasures by being asked to preach my first ever “official” gospel message  –  it was also the first time I preached a message from the pulpit at my home church. We held an evening event for which we had established a theme of “It starts and ends at the cross”. It was an oddly nerve-wracking endeavor to prepare this message as I felt a weight from hosting such a lofty privilege as to handle a most poignant message carrying such extreme importance. Although there is an element of the Gospel in much if not all that I preach, it was different having a singular mandate to make the case for Christ and Christianity clear.

A Muslim turned Christian: Christmas outreach testimonial

I was graciously invited to share a condensed version of my testimonial at a unique Christmas outreach hosted by Miliken Gospel Church. I always feel blessed to be able to share my salvation story and especially felt a double dose of blessing being able to share to a group of individuals whose exposure to the Gospel may be somewhat limited. The group was comprised of ethnically diverse people from places such as China, Sri Lanka, India, and Africa who had recently immigrated to Canada and were enrolled in ESL (English as a Secondary Language) classes.

Christian Yoga = oxymoron

“The Outstretched philosophy is simple: we believe God will bless our sincere efforts at deepening a relationship with Him. He wants our fellowship and appreciates creative approaches to seeking His face. This is why Outstretched is dedicated to a Christ-centered pursuit of physical healing and spiritual growth through a practice of yoga.

This Christian approach to yoga simply allows us to combine these two essential goals: becoming physically healthy and spiritually healthy. We become more spiritually healthy through the yoga practice by calming our minds and quieting ourselves to the point that we can tune out the world’s frequency and tune into God’s frequency.”

The above text is a direct quote (emphasis added) from the first Christian yoga site that appears when I use Google to search “Christian Yoga”. As you read it, how do you feel? Apathetic? Troubled? Dismayed? Frustrated?

My reaction occurred in rapid fire succession as I read the aforementioned text:

• “Sincere efforts” - sounds like the post-modern emphasis of sincerity being a supreme virtue above God’s objective Truth, doesn’t it?
• “Creative approaches” - does this really work on Christians out there? Has God called us in accordance with Scripture to utilize creative approaches to seek Him or has He already delivered how we can accomplish this?
• “Christ-centred” - Seriously? Is this really Christ centred? Isn’t it as self-centred as Hinduism and Buddhism gets? Isn’t it about the “god” in ourselves? (notice the quote located on the book above). It also reminds me of a bumper sticker I once saw expounding Hinduism’s

TiS celebrates its first birthday!

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

I am writing to you in celebration of Theology in Sneakers’ (TiS) one year anniversary! I would like to thank you for all your prayers and continued support offered since the launch of TiS.

In the past year, TiS has received over 12,000 visits from across the globe representing over 100 countries. Thank you to all of you for sharing this ministry with your friends and families and contributing to this humbling blessing. Additionally, I would like to affectionately thank the 50+ loyal readers that have subscribed to automatically receive new TiS posts through Twitter and e-mail.

TiS continues to strive to provide answers founded in accurate biblical interpretation, thorough research, and logic-based thought. It has expanded from 15 posts at launch to over 50 posts covering a wide range of topics, from evil and suffering in the world to effective witnessing. It has truly been a blessing to have God use TiS in order to defend, proclaim, and expand His Kingdom.
